Bless the Lord, O my soul, bless His Holy Name.

Psalm 103

A native of Savannah, Georgia, where his family settled as Lutheran refugees and  immigrants in the early 1700's, Pastor Bridgers learned early on that he was intrigued by the diversity of human behavior and developing emotional bonds with others. This love of people led him to a B.A. (With Honors)  from Newberry College, an M. Div. in 1979 from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and a Doctor of Divinity from Lenoir Rhyne College.

Upon graduation from seminary he accepted a call to serve as pastor of  the historic Solomon Lutheran Church est. 1797 in Eastern Tennessee.  During his tenure  he established various ministries of community outreach including Home Health Care, which provided free medical devices such as hospital beds, for home bound patients.

After receiving a call from Peachtree Road in 1984, he came to Atlanta to become Pastor and arrived to begin a process of fundraising and a total rehabilitation of existing facilities.  He established the Peachtree Road Lutheran Preschool upon his  his arrival.    Today, Kirk continues both as Pastor of Peachtree Road Lutheran Church, and as Headmaster of the School, overseeing its operations on a daily basis.

Dr. Bridgers is married to the former Janet Biser of Orangeburg, SC and they are parents of two sons, John and Bill.  Kirk and Janet make their home in the Brookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta.

Music is central to Christian Worship and nowhere is that more evident than Sunday mornings at Peachtree Road. We are a singing church,  fromc majestic congregational singing of hymns, to beautiful choral anthems andpowerful solos by our Choral Scholars.

wor·ship
noun: the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.

At Peachtree Road, the worship experience is central to our faith. While Traditional and Liturgical in feel, we are acutely aware that all worship is contemporary; in that we look forward to meeting you, wherever you are on your faith journey.

Worship services at Peachtree Road begin each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary and are led by The Rev. Dr. Kirk Bridgers, the Chancel Choir, Peachtree Road Choral Scholars and you, the members of our congregation.   There is a special time for Children in each service which includes a special message, augmented from time to time with special music from our preschool children.  The children's sermon time is followed by Children's Sunday School.  Adult Bible Study is offered at 10:00 a.m.

A native Mississippian, Joel Carver brings a passion for worship and excellence in music to Peachtree Road.   A lifelong musician, Joel holds a B.S. in Hotel Administration and a B.A. in Applied Organ and Choral Conducting; as well as an MBA in Business Valuation.

He has served churches in positions of Organist, Organist/Choirmaster, Director of Instrumental Music, Minister of Worship, Music and the Arts and Artist-In-Residence.   Since joining Peachtree Road as Organist/Choirmaster in January of 2016, he has been laser-focused on enhancing worship through a blended perspective.   On any given Sunday, the congregation may expect to participate in hymns, chants and responses from the Gregorian to Traditional to Gospel to Spirit Songs.

Mr. Carver has a lifelong love of congregational singing and is never happier than to hear a congregation sing, unaccompanied, using their "Outside Voices".  In 2016-2017, Joel introduced The Peachtree Strings and The Peachtree Brass into the worship experience for Festal Days, bringing a power and majesty to a traditional worship experience.

Today, Joel is leading the restoration efforts for a recent gift to the congregation. A historic 1903 6'3 Bluthner grand piano, currently in the hands of the restoration team.

When not at Peachtree Road, Joel may be found as CEO at Atlanta based, The Carver Companies.   He is a resident of Sandy Springs, GA.

WORSHIP

Our Organist/Choirmaster reminds us regularly that the primary function of church music is to "Usher the People of God to the Throne of God - or in other terms, to present the congregation to the time of the sermon ready to receive The Word of God".  On most any given Sunday, moments before the sermon, you will find yourself singing a familiar hymn summoning the work of the Holy Spirit as you prepare to receive The Word of God.
